If you can dream it, I can plan it.

Boutique Hotels in Montreal

I was recently asked to organize a bachelor party for 9 of my guy friends from NYC that wanted to live it up in Montreal.  I was surprised that they didn’t want the obvious bachelor party experience in Miami or Las Vegas.  Turns out they had heard great things about Montreal and wanted my help to guide them around.  I could not have been more pleased with their selection!

Montreal is one of the most beautiful and unique cities in Canada.  The fact that the main language in the province of Quebec is French makes for a challenging visit but its shopping (fashion capital of Canada), nightlife, hospitality offerings and overall European charm make it a great place to visit and have a lot of fun.

For the sake of this post, I will be going through some boutique hotels in the city.  These days everyone wants to stay in a boutique hotel and Montreal has many to choose from.

Here are a sample of hotels I have stayed overnight  and ones I have been to site-check:

HYATT REGENCY MONTREAL
1255 Jeanne-Mance
Montreal, Quebec  H5B 1E5 (map)
@HyattRegencyMontreal

This picture makes me want to go to the Hyatt just to hang.

What they say:  Experience hospitality with a distinct French flavour at Hyatt Regency Montreal.

Dough: I booked 4 rooms from May 17-20th.   1 exec suite with 2 bedrooms for $718/night and 3 standard rooms at $199/night each. We took advantage of the pay ‘2 nights get 1 free’ promo.

Wifi: Free as long as you check into Foursquare upon arrival.

That’s what’s up: The hotel has an indoor pool and a pool table.

Overall:  I’ve never stayed at the Hyatt Regency but based on the location and the nice people behind their twitter account (yes it matters!), I booked this hotel for my guests.  Disclaimer, this hotel isn’t a “boutique” but it makes the cut due to the styling and range I wanted to provide.  It is located in the heart of the city, caters to business stays and as well as travelers that just want to have a good time.

OPUS HOTEL MONTREAL
10 Sherbrooke Ouest
Montreal, Québec H2X 4C9 (map)

Nothing makes me happier than an outdoor patio! The Opus Hotel is connected to a restaurant named Koko and they turn out some of the best parties in the summer.

What they say:  Opus Hotel Montreal is a unique, boutique hotel blending contemporary style and design with a nod to the historic.

Dough: I’ve seen rates that go from $180/night and up.

Wired:  They offer free wifi & local phone calls.

That’s what’s up:  Opus was selected as one of the world’s hottest new hotels by Condé Nast Traveler magazine.

Overall:  I really like this hotel.  I have stayed about a half dozen times for personal and work related events.  When you are trying to get the best out of the city, it helps when your stay is close to hot spots like resto/bar “Koko” (attached to the Opus) and other sexy supperclubs located across the street  like Buonanotte and Wood35.

Le PETIT HôTEL (translates to “The Little Hotel”)
168 Rue Saint Paul Ouest (English:  Saint Paul Street West)
Montreal, QC H2Y 1Z7 (map)
@PetitHotelMTL

Who doesn’t love exposed brick? Le Petit Hotel keeps true to the area it resides in.

 What they say: Le Petit Hôtel is Montreal’s newest addition to its palette of boutique hotels. Chic, contemporary and with European flair, Le Petit Hôtel – comprised of 24 rooms and a lobby café – is a hip hideaway offering a laid back atmosphere and  a most versatile team to assist in personalizing your stay.

Dough:  With 4 available room sizes (Small, Medium, Large & Extra large) the Small room goes for $159-239 and an Extra large room goes for $249-$319.

That’s what’s up: Breakfast and WiFi is included.

Overall:  This hotel looks cool and cozy.  This is the type of place and neighbourhood I would like to live in.

HôTEL Le GERMAIN MONTRéAL
2050, rue Mansfield
Montréal, Québec   H3A 1Y9 (map)
@HotelGermainl

What they say:  In a trendy downtown neighbourhood stands our chic and intimate boutique-hotel, intended for both business and leisure clients alike. The product of the astonishing transformation of a former office building, the hotel offers a unique concept in accommodation.

Dough: Superior Rooms start at $210/night and Apartment Suites start at $950/night.  Valet is $27/day.  All rates include deluxe continental breakfast.

Wifi: Free high-speed internet.

That’s what’s up:  It is simple but what I love about this property is their attention to detail.  So much so that each room has room specific rooms numbers etched in the glassware.  So if you break a glass, they replace it with not  any random glass, but one made for the room!  They also have 2 sister hotels located in Toronto.

AUBERGE du VIEUX-PORT
97 Rue de la Commune Est
Montreal, QC H2Y 1J1 (map)
@expoldMontreal

Just picture a warm summer night, being able to open up those massive windows!

 What they say:  Saying good night at the Vieux-Port means waking up to the romance of centuries past, in a cozy yet elegant room looking out over the Saint Lawrence. Make your way to Taverne Gaspar, accessible and comforting cuisine inspired by British Gastro Pubs with French and Quebecois accents. It’s a wonderful memory just waiting to happen, at the Auberge du Vieux-Port.

Dough: $230/night and up includes full breakfast and welcome cocktail.

Wifi: Complimentary high-speed wireless internet.

That’s what’s up: The award-winning hotel has 27 rooms with views of the old port or the cobblestone street of St. Paul’s.

Overall: Keep in mind this is a “luxury hotel”.

W HOTEL MONTRéAL
901 Square Victoria
Montreal, Quebec   H2Z 1R1 (map)
@WMontreal

 What they say:  Home in the city’s historic Banque du Canada building transformed into a rich, modern tapestry, W Montreal is close to picturesque Old Montreal, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the city’s world-class downtown.

Dough: Approx. $250/night and up.

Wifi: $15/day.  Free in meeting rooms.

That’s what’s up: This is the only W property in Canada.  That should say a lot about the city and the planning that went into this property.  W Hotels also have a partnership with Acura.  Instead of hopping in a cab, call ahead and ask the concierge for drop-off service.

Overall:  You can’t go wrong with a W Hotel and this hotel doesn’t fall short in any way.  Good times are to be had a the Wunderbar but I’d recommend you skip eating at Otto, the hotel’s onsite restaurant.  Go out and explore!
