If you can dream it, I can plan it.

Nairobi: Giraffe Manor Hotel

The Safari Collection’s Giraffe Manor!

It looks like something straight out of a Disney movie.  That’s probably why people are clamoring to book  this ‘once in a lifetime experience’ as the waitlist to stay at this 12-room hotel is rumored to be 2 years long!

The hotel’s entrance

My friend Mona was visiting our friend Ayni in Nairobi, Kenya.  They had heard about this magical place less than 30 mins away from the city center where giraffes roam free and make friendly visits throughout the day.

Kenya is on the east coast of Africa. Nairobi, its capital, has a population of approx 3 million people which is comparable to Rome or Toronto.

Even though their online searches weren’t successful, they figured they’d give it a shot by cold calling the hotel directly and it totally paid off!  What are the chances there was a cancellation???  Talk about perfect timing and stars aligning!

Due to its location, you can’t just roll-up to the manor.  That is why they send a car to pick-up guests from their home, hotel or airport as a part of their stay.  As your excitement builds, the drive then becomes a great opportunity to ask the driver all the question you have about the experience you are about to have.

Breakfast for 3!

Mona and Ayni were appointed a room with two single beds and stayed just one night.

Their pictures show an interaction with the wild most people only dream about.

MAGICAL!

Beautiful photo ops at every turn!

You’ll note that the Rothschild giraffes (an endangered species) at Giraffe Manor are wild and roam free among the 140 acres of indigenous forest.  Although the hotel doesn’t guarantee interactions, the dozen or so giraffes typically visit in the morning between 6-8AM and around high teat time between 4-6PM.  The hotel supplies each guest with pellets made from dry grass, corn and molasses.

SEASON:  The Giraffe Manor is open all year round.

COST:  It is estimated at about $900USD/per night for a Superior room which includes transportation, meals and drinks – and of course interactions with the giraffes!

STAY:  The recommended length of stay is 2 nights.
